Items to consider when preparing a kit for contract assembly

  • Have you planned for attrition being allowed in the material?
    • Passive devices 3% (Allow a minimum of 18 inches in length for strips)
    • Active devices 1%
    • High cost devices 1% extra
  • Is the material packaged in their original containers / reels / tubes / trays?
    • Additional handling injects errors and could damage devices. Although we will accept material in any configuration, it is preferable to keep the material in the containers in which they were purchased.
  • Are there special handling requirements?
    • Some devices require special solder reflow profiles or cannot be washed in an aqueous cleaner. These devices will require special handling to insure a quality product, special handling instructions need to be included.
  • Do you have humidity sensitive devices?
    • Some plastic ICs have a fixed amount of time in which they can be exposed to an ambient atmosphere before they need to be baked prior to being reflowed. When kitting is taking place, data from the original packaging needs to be transferred.
  • Are the components properly marked in proper ESD packaging material?
    • Customer part number
    • Reference designator(s)
    • Quantity
  • Has clear and current revision documentation been included?
    • Bill of Material
    • Assembly Drawing
    • Parts list with reference designators
    • Special Instructions
    • Engineering Change Orders
    • Packing List
  • Are special chemicals or ARs (As Required) included in the kits?
    • Ink for marking
    • Epoxy for bonding
    • Thermal compounds for heat sinks/transistors
    • Mounting hardware, buss wire, sleeving and other items that are normally line stock.
  • Are there any shortages?
    • Shortages will delay delivery, it's our policy not to start assembly until all shortage issues are resolved. These delays will correspond to a one-to-one slip in time on the delivery date.
